Camp Monroe is offering two travel camps this summer
From the beaches to the mountains and now the expansive landscapes of the American West, Camp Monroe’s Travel Camp creates memories that last a life time.
Camp Monroe’s Expedition Camp is a two-week tent-camping journey through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the United States. Beginning in Seattle with a food tour at Pike Place Market, campers will explore the lush rainforests and rugged coastlines of Olympic National Park, the stunning beaches of Cannon Beach, Oregon, and the wild waters of the Snake River for a full day of whitewater rafting. The adventure continues in Glacier National Park, where campers will hike world-class trails, experience the Going-to-the-Sun Road, and witness towering peaks and pristine alpine lakes. With a mix of hiking, camping, outdoor adventure, and cultural experiences, this trip offers campers the chance to grow in confidence, build community, and experience God’s creation in unforgettable ways.

Itinerary:
Northwest Expedition Camp Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Seattle
Fly into Seattle, set up camp nearby, and kick off the adventure with a campfire under the stars.
Day 2 – Seattle & Pike Place Market
Spend the morning on a guided food tour at Pike Place Market, sampling local favorites and exploring the city before returning to camp.
Days 3–4 – Olympic National Park
Discover the magic of the Hoh Rain Forest, hike lush trails, and take in breathtaking views from Hurricane Ridge. End your days with tidepools and sunsets at Ruby Beach.
Days 5–6 – Cannon Beach, Oregon
Travel down the coast to Cannon Beach to explore tidepools at Haystack Rock, hike scenic trails in Ecola State Park, and enjoy campfires by the ocean.
Days 7–8 – Olympic Peninsula & Coast
Spend extra time exploring waterfalls, beaches, and coastal trails.
Days 9–10 – Snake River, Idaho
Set up camp along the Snake River and get ready for a full day of whitewater rafting with professional guides.
Days 11–13 – Glacier National Park
Journey to Montana’s crown jewel, Glacier National Park. Drive the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road, hike to alpine lakes, and spend a full day on epic trails like the Highline Trail or Grinnell Glacier Trail.
Day 14 – Return to Seattle
Pack up camp, head back to Seattle, and fly home with incredible memories and new friendships.

- What’s Included: Flights, transportation, meals, camping permits, and necessary equipment are all included.
- Accommodations: Campers will tent-camp at designated campsites in national parks, providing an authentic outdoor experience. All campgrounds have bathrooms. Please note that not every campgroulnd has showers
- Experience Level: Campers must be comfortable with hiking several miles a day and spending the majority of the trip tent-camping.

Spaces are limited—sign up today for the Western Adventure Travel Camp, and give your camper the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally in some of the USA’s most beautiful settings! We will only be going to The Northwest this summer, in 2027 we will be going to a new location.
For our two-week adventure in the great outdoors, it’s important that campers come prepared with the right gear to stay comfortable, safe, and ready for the challenges ahead. All personal items must fit into a large travel backpack (40–65-liter bag). If campers do not have a large travel bag, they can rent one from Camp Monroe for $25 with two weeks advanced notice. Camp Monroe will provide the tents and a reusable water bottle for each camper.
Please note that campers will need to pack lightly and efficiently, as we’ll be moving frequently and camping in various locations. We will stop at a laundromat halfway through the trip. Below is the full list of what each camper needs to bring:

Packing Instructions
Day Packs should be separate from the main luggage and carried daily for hiking essentials (water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, etc.).
All personal items should fit in either a large travel backpack. Campers will be responsible for carrying their own gear, so please pack efficiently and avoid overpacking.
Important Reminders
Hiking shoes are mandatory, as campers will be hiking several miles each day. Please ensure they are broken in before camp to avoid blisters.
Avoid packing unnecessary electronics or valuables, as they may get lost or damaged during the trip.
Campers are allowed to bring phones, but charging will be limited, and service will be spotty.

How will meals be handled?
Meals will be prepared at campgrounds using portable cooking equipment. Campers should bring reusable eating supplies (a plate, utensils, etc.) as part of their gear.
What if my camper has never been camping before?
No previous camping experience is required! Our leaders will teach campers the necessary skills, and the experience is designed to be both fun and educational for beginners and seasoned campers alike.
How are campers transported during the trip?
Campers will be transported between locations in 12 passenger van driven by our experienced staff. All drivers are licensed, and the vehicles undergo regular safety checks.
How are medications handled?
All medications must be provided in their original packaging, labeled with the camper’s name and dosage instructions. Medications will be collected and administered by the trip leaders as needed. Please be sure to fill out the medical form in advance with all relevant details.
Can my child bring a cell phone or other electronics?
Cell phones may be brought but will be kept with trip leaders during activities to avoid distractions. Campers will have designated times to check in with parents. When campers are in the Van, they will be allowed to have their phone.
How physically demanding is this trip?
This trip includes moderate to strenuous physical activity, such as hiking. Campers should be prepared for outdoor adventures, including walking several miles. If your child has any medical conditions or physical limitations, please let us know in advance. This trip is for campers that are physical and mental prepared to be outdoors for two weeks.
Trip Leaders:

Our Expedition Camp will be led by two experienced and passionate leaders who are dedicated to providing a safe, enriching, and memorable experience for all campers.
Gene Joiner, the Director of Camp Monroe, brings over 25 years of leadership and travel experience. He has led travel camps to various destinations including: Alaska, California, Peru, Canada, and Brazil, making him well-versed in the challenges and rewards of outdoor exploration. He is also an experienced hiker, in 2024 Gene and a team hiked up to Mt. Everest basecamp in Nepal. Gene’s extensive experience ensures that every camper will be guided with care, expertise, and a focus on personal growth.
Hannah Joiner has five years of experience leading camps and guided last summer’s successful travel camp to the Outer Banks. In addition, Hannah has traveled to over 40 countries, she has backpacked for 3 months solo in Europe and lived in Thailand and Cambodia as a missionary. She has personally driven cross-country to all the locations featured on this trip. Her firsthand knowledge of the route and passion for adventure will provide campers with unique insights and guidance as they explore the stunning landscapes of the American West.

Year 1: The Southwest 2025 In the first year of our adventure plan, we’re heading to the stunning Southwest. This year’s itinerary includes visits to the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and other breathtaking destinations. Campers will experience rugged desert landscapes, awe-inspiring canyons, and the rich history of this beautiful region. Summer of 2025
Year 2: The Pacific Northwest
This year, we’ll explore the lush beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Our adventure will start in Seattle and take us through Olympic National Park, Cannon Beach, and Glacier National Park, with an additional stop in Idaho. This trip is perfect for those who love a mix of coastal beauty, mountainous terrain, and vibrant city culture. Summer of 2026
Year 3: The Great Alaskan Adventure
In the third year of our rotation, we’ll embark on the ultimate journey to Alaska! This adventure will immerse campers in the rugged wilderness of America’s Last Frontier. We’ll explore majestic glaciers, vast tundras, and diverse wildlife, offering a truly unforgettable experience. Summer of 2027
7-Day Beach to Mountains Camping Adventure
Join us for an unforgettable 7-day camping adventure that takes campers on an exciting journey from the stunning beach of South Carolina to the breathtaking mountains of North Carolina! This trip combines history, adventure, and outdoor fun, offering a unique experience for campers to explore, learn, and bond with nature.
Camper’s will be tent camping at all locations.
Day 1,2,3-4 Nantahala Outdoor Center and Dollywood
We will be at the NOC for the start of the trip doing white water rafting, hiking small parts of the Appalachian trail, and going to Dollywood.
Day 5: Camp Monroe
We’ll drive back to Camp and camper will be able to enjoy some camp activities (high ropes, giant swing and swimming in the pool).
Day 6-7: Myrtle Beach, SC
We’ll end the trip by camping at a beautiful beachside location. Campers will enjoy swimming in the ocean, building sandcastles, and bible study on the beach.
This trip is designed for campers ready for a blend of adventure, learning, and fun. With activities ranging from beach camping and mountain hiking to roller coasters and rafting, it’s an experience your child won’t want to miss!

We encourage campers to disconnect from electronics during the trip to fully engage in the experience. Cell phones may be brought but will be kept with trip leaders during activities to avoid distractions. Campers will have their phone when we are driving to a new location.
