Wedding FAQs The questions we answer the most!

This list of questions has been created based on feedback from prior weddings and the multiple phone calls our Office Manager receives when helping brides plan their weddings. If your questions are not on this list, please feel free to email: office@monroecamp.org for further assistance.

How early can I arrive onsite the day of the wedding?

You are welcome to arrive when our office opens at 8:30am.

When should we plan to leave?

If you group is not staying the night, most groups leave between 10:00pm and 11:00pm. If your group is staying the night, checkout is 11:00am.

Are string lights included with Boyd Hall?

New as of November 2021 – Strings Lights are now included in the cost of the building!

Are we allowed to have alcohol?

Per our reservation form: No hard liquor will be allowed on the property of Monroe Camp and Retreat Center. Wine and/or beer may be served inside ONLY Boyd Hall, McKnight Lodge, Hafer Hall, and the Picnic Shelter and only when said buildings have been reserved as stated on the Monroe Camp and Retreat Center Reservation Form.  It is required to have off-duty, uniformed Scotland County Sheriff Deputies present during events in which alcohol is readily available for consumption.

Do we need event insurance?

It is mandatory that weddings have event insurance. Event insurance can be purchased through your car/home insurance agent or can be purchased online. A copy is required to be submitted to the Monroe Camp and Retreat Center Office prior to the wedding group arrival.

What are the dimensions of your tables?

Round: 5 feet in diameter (70 inch table cloths will come just to a person’s knees when seated at the table, 90 inch table cloths will sit a few inches from the floor.)

6ft: 3 feet wide by 6 feet long

8ft: 3 feet wide by 8 feet long

Can we come in the day before and decorate?

Prior Day Access is available as needed. It is 5 hours for $400.

How does the security deposit work?

We use the refundable security deposit to hold your desired date and in case of trash or damages. After your event, if the property is left in good condition, the refundable security deposit will be returned to you within 30 days. Please note the refundable security deposit is done in addition to the cost of the event.

Can we bring RVs on site?

No, RVs are not allowed on site.

Do I have to share the property?

If you are the first group booking a weekend, you have the first right of refusal on a Privacy Fee. The Privacy Fee ensures that your group will be the only group on site, and no tours or individuals who are not staff will be on site the day of the event.

If you are the second group to book a weekend, we do not rent the same building to multiple groups for a single day, so while there are two or more groups on the property, other than passing each other, you will not need to share space. Example: Wedding in Boyd Hall and Family Reunion in Hafer.

You have activities available to Guest Groups, can Weddings rent them as well?

Yes! If you are interested in your group using the pool, or standup paddle boards, or anything else that we may have, we can arrange it to be available to your group (weather permitting).

Destination Weddings: How do they work?

We have many groups that are interested in a more laid-back wedding weekend instead of a single day event. We have McKnight Lodge and cabins available for overnight guests. It’s not uncommon for guests to be driven in from airports and stay long weekends. With many activities and plenty of space to spread out, destination weddings of 50-100 can easily be accommodated.

What about decorations?

You are welcome to decorate inside and outside of buildings if it is not a permanent change to the building (example, drilling holes through beams to hide cords). We have groups wrap trees with lights, hang décor from windows, wrap beams, place speakers, arrange greenery, you name it.

Can I take pictures or bridal pictures?

Yes! For bridal pictures we recommend the middle of the week as most of our weekends have groups and we understand that you’d like privacy for your bridal pictures.

If you need to take pictures of buildings, take measurements, or get a feel for the space, you are welcome to visit during business hours (Tuesday – Saturday – 8:30am-12:30pm) and ask any questions you may have.

What does it mean when you say Boyd is an “open air building”?

Boyd does not have any heat or air systems currently in place. The building is flanked by two screened in porches. It is possible to cover the doors during colder months and use gas heat to warm up the building. There are two large wall fans at the top of the building that help to control humidity, but they do not necessarily cool the building down if it is a particularly hot weekend.

Where are your outdoor ceremony locations?

The most popular choices have been Boyd Hall’s field and the lakefront. But honestly, if you like the look of a field or wooded area, we can move chairs to your desired location. Most outdoor ceremony locations do not have electrical hookups. Outdoor locations include, but are not limited to, Boyd Hall Deck, Hafer Fields, Lakefront with grass, Lakefront with sand (Benches or chairs), and any other grounds you are interested in.

How far out can I book my wedding?

Currently we reserve up to 1 year in advance.
